ADHD coaching is not a replacement for therapy

It's more specific: supporting personal development through an ADHD lens.

Where It Fits

Coaching complements the work happening in therapy — it doesn't replace it. We focus on two things therapy often doesn't have room for:

Re-writing old stories of shame and negativity through an ADHD lens. We look back and understand why things were the way they were — including what actually worked that went unnoticed or unappreciated. We honor strengths and systems, and get curious about what a client wants to do with them. Organizing, planning, accomplishing — that's usually the entry point. But it becomes about rewriting a healthy self-narrative. We may touch small-t traumas along the way and loosen the negative associations to it.

Building the day-to-day skills — executive function, emotional regulation, systems — that make daily life more workable.

Most recently, I coordinated a nature-based programme for middle schoolers, where I saw firsthand how ADHD and autism show up in a real classroom.

Why It Helps Rather Than Competes

Coaching supports the practical side of things. When a client has a clear handle on what keeps them operational day to day, it opens up space for deeper work in therapy.

ADHD coaching also grounds clients in their strengths, so they have something solid to hold onto and return to when they're doing trauma work.

Where the Line Is

ADHD coaching does not diagnose or treat trauma, mental health conditions, or emotional, psychological, or spiritual wounding. Anything that's out of scope is referred back to the therapist.

I work as one part of a client's larger care team — alongside their therapist, and/or a prescriber.
